It’s been too long since I was last in Singapore. You know how I know? My skin is dry and lifeless, my nails are crying out for attention and my feet, well, let’s not go there. My visits to Singapore are the one time that I put aside time to look after myself.
Sure, there’d be cheaper places to go for pampering, but you already know that Singapore is my haven. It’s a place where I feel completely relaxed, and because I’ve visited so many time, I don’t have that FOMO that normally takes hold when I visit a new city. I know I’ll be back again and again, so I also know I can do as little or as much sightseeing as I want when I’m in Singapore, always leaving time for R&R.
Before I even arrive in Singapore, I’ve usually made a long appointment at OPI @ The Forum to get a complete workover for my hands and feet, and they always do a fantastic job. But this time, I just felt like trying somewhere new. When I came across The Nail Social, I knew I’d found the place I wanted to try.
The Nail Social are a lifestyle nail salon that, along with all the usual salon treatments, also offer drinks and snacks and fairtrade retail. Situated in trendy Haji Lane in Kampong Glam, a short flight of stairs leads you to the small studio that is The Nail Social. Friendly faces greet you straight away, and beckon you inside, eager to get working on bringing your extremities back to life.
There are three seats situated on an elevated platform and each has an iPad next to it, so you can load up Netflix and take your relaxation to the next level.
But The Nail Social isn’t all about me, it’s also socially conscious. It was created with the aim of training and employing local underprivileged women. They work together with various social agencies within Singapore to identify women facing high barriers to employment, and training them to help them to become self-sufficient.
I opted for the Luxe Mani/Pedi combo, with non-toxic gel polish. All of the products they used (most of which are non-toxic, fairtrade and eco-friendly) smelt absolutely amazing and I walked away feeling fantastic.
There are cute pieces of jewellery dotted around the studio, all for sale, so you too can make a difference. The Nail Social are open 6 days a week, from 10am to 8pm, so go ahead and make an appointment.
